The 4th INTHERWASTE thematic seminar took place on 13- June 2018 in Córdoba. It will focus on "Waste Minimization in Heritage Areas".
During this seminar, the project partners, experts and guests discussed the different aspects of waste prevention in an urban environment, in particular with the presentation of best practices from heritage cities across Europe.
Waste prevention represents the highest level of the waste hierarchy, as defined in the Waste Framework Directive. Recent policy developments at European level are also aiming to strengthen measures supporting waste prevention in EU countries. It is important to note that in addition to the positive impact on a more sustainable use of material resource and on the environment, waste minimization usually generates positive social impacts. Waste prevention actions often involve more interactions between citizens thanks to the organisation of local level initiatives.
The practices that will be presented are grouped into 5 topics:
- Economic instruments;
- Reuse;
- Composting;
- Campaigns;
- Stakeholders cooperation to address food waste.
