The EU Interreg project’s Islands of Innovation team member Nameda Belmane was awarded the Oranjewoud Excellence Fund scholarship in a small informal ceremony at the Frisian Estate Oranjewoud in The Netherlands, for in-depth development and testing of the project’s innovation policy tool, the TIPPING wheel. 
In the EU Islands of Innovation project, PhD candidate Mrs. Nameda Belmane, supervised by Professor Dr.Ir. Peter Joore (NHL, Lectorate Creative Innovation) and Professor Dr.Ir. Han Brezet (University of Aalborg, Department of Planning & Development) has developed a new, design thinking based approach for innovation in a local context. The approach builds and synergizes various theoretical disciplines, including models from Effectuation, Bricolage, Insider-Outsider and Industrial Design theories, called TIPPING wheel. A first fase value test of the effectiveness and usability of the TIPPING Wheel on the island(s) of Samsœ (DK) and Azores (PT) has demonstrated a great potential. The scholarship was awarded for further, in-depth development of the tool and for testing its application in various contexts and sectors.
