On the 9th of December2020, the 2nd regional thematic workshop as part of the LINDANET project took place. In the Silesia region, one of the most frequently mentioned examples of this problem is Jaworzno, where for many years the production of chemical pesticides has been carried out, including those containing lindane.
Jaworzno is one of the most difficult cases in Poland, but not the only one - said Grzegorz Gzyl, Lindanet project manager, during the opening of the meeting. During the workshop, experts discussed the current practices in the field of limitation enivronmental contamination, including the example of the former Zakłady Chemiczne Tarnowskie Góry presented by the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Katowice or activities undertaken by Bydgoszcz in relation to environmental hazards in the area of the former ZACHEM Chemical Plant. The topic of the liquidation of burial grounds, and thus the places where plant protection products were stored, was presented by the Institute of Plant Protection - National Research Institute. During the meeting, the proposed legal changes to limit lindane contamination in Europe were also discussed.
