The workshop was attended by more than 50 representatives of SMEs, universities, business support organizations and public sector and benefitted from the presence of valuable speakers from University Politehnica of Bucharest, ELINCLUS, Romanian Society of Biomaterials, MGM Construct, ICECHIM Bucharest, Metallurgical Research Institute, National Institute for R&D in Microtechnologies, Medical Ortovit SRL, HOFIGAL S.A.
The event has debated the benefits in integrating nanomaterials and nanotechnologies in industry and the cooperation options between research and the private sector for new projects development as part of the NMP-REG regional Action Plan.
Prof. Iulian Antoniac, the regional coordinator of NMP-REG on behalf of UPB, highlighted that „Nanotechnologies and advanced materials have extended applicability. In Romania, we notice that in the medical field, in orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, cardiovascular surgery, dentistry, advanced materials, and nanotechnologies are being used more and more. However, although we can pride ourselves with outstanding research and innovation outcomes, the translation of research results into the industrial environment for the implementation of medical devices usable by doctors in Romanian hospitals for the treatment of patients is still difficult. The regional team of the NMP-REG project hopes that by developing collaborative relationships, both at national and international level, we will be able to create in Romania a critical mass of human and material resources that will allow the development of new products integrating nanotechnologies and new materials such as biodegradable metals or bioactive ceramics.”
