The cross-border cooperation is essential for maritime regions, to overcome shared problems and to encourage their development. This is the right time to stress the relevance of the maritime cross-border cooperation at European central levels and to underline the integration between the programmes and projects funded by European Territorial Cooperation.
Throughout the Interreg Italy-France Maritime’s annual capitalisation event on 16 November, there were presentations, speeches and debates on the future of cross-border cooperation and on the specificities of the maritime border in the framework of European territorial cooperation. Representatives of other Programs (Italy-France ALCOTRA; MED Program; Interreg Europe; Interact), European Institutions (DG Regio – European Cross-Border Cooperation Unit) and European projects (funded by ECT programs) have been invited to deep this discussion and give inputs to the beneficiaries of the maritime programme. In Genoa, the Managing Authority of the cross-border cooperation programme officially launched also the capitalisation process with the presentation and establishment of 6 thematic clusters:
1. Creation of cross-border service networks
2. Promotion of sustainable tourism
3. Managing risks related to climate change
4. Promoting sustainability of ports and safety at sea
5. Conservation, protection and development of natural and cultural heritage
6. Promoting connections to reduce distances
In this context, the Chamber of Commerce of Maremma and Tirreno has been involved to present PASSAGE project. In particular, it has underlined possible collaboration between the project itself and these thematic clusters in the cross-border action plan’s implementation. It has also been proposed to share with the Interreg Italy-France Maritime programme and its beneficiaries the policy recommendations produced by PASSAGE, to emphasise maritime cross-border issues’ importance at European level.
