The European Commission inaugurates the first European Sustainability Award to recognize the efforts and creativity of European businesses, organizations and citizens who work to achieve the United Nations' sustainable development goals. The award focuses on a specific topic, linked to the theme chosen each year by the UN High Level Political Forum. For this year's edition, the theme of the award is: "Empowering citizens and ensuring inclusion and equality". The competition is open to 4 categories of subjects:

1. young people

2.public bodies

3. private bodies

4. civil society.

Applications can be submitted until September 14th. The winners will be selected by a jury made up of members of the Commission's multilateral platform on the goals of sustainable development and will be announced at a solemn ceremony in the spring of 2019.
