Sizing Servers Lab is an applied IT research lab. It provides both tech and non-tech companies with easy to apply advice on IT topics by real-life case studies.
Sizing Servers Lab collaborates with both tech and non-tech companies (managers, IT administrators) and advices them on the added value and implementation of new media and novel communication technologies. Their advice is underpinned by performance-testing.
The information and research insights SSL accumulates from these real-life cases, flow back both to the university students and to the industry in the form of guest lectures, syllabi, workshops, webinars, blogs etc. The lab also provides tailor-made in-company training.

SSL collaborates not only with the local industries but has longstanding relationships with renowned research centres in Flanders such as imec, and with the international digital tech scene in e.g. Silicon Valley.

Current research topics comprise analytics in the cloud and more efficient webservices.

Evidence of success

Sizing Servers Lab continues to present a steady number of challenging business cases with both smaller local companies and international companies. Potential for learning or transfer

Sizing Servers Labs demonstrates how academic research, academic teaching and real- life business cases may reinforce each other. All parties involved, researchers, companies and students alike, learn from each other. Students are better prepared to enter the job market, researchers can update and elaborate their findings with real-life practices, while companies stay up-to-date with the newest IT trends in an easily accessible setting. For additional information on how to implement an independent applied IT research lab it is also possible to contact Johan De Gelas (Head Of Sizing Servers Lab). The accumulation of information and research insights flows back to the industry in the form of regular Sizing Servers Lab workshops and Sizing Servers Lab webinars. The lab also provides tailor-made in-company training on request
