Gamification of Dalarna is based on the region's strong position in tourism, which has provided the foundation for the development of the cluster Destination Dalarna. To maintain this strong position in the future we have to attract new target audiences. The greatest potential for this renewal have been found in gamification. This was visible in an application that was developed to create an experience beyond expectations for the World Ski Championships in Falun 2015. This was channeled into the strategic idea: Places are not only geographical and experiences are not only physical. People are no longer so sure what's what. The first application – Visit Dalarna Travel Guide was launched in October 2020. A digital guide for visitors in a 3D visualization showing hiking and biking tracks. 360 photos and films allowing the visitor “walk around” and explore a house/room/site as in a game. No matter when, no matter where the visitor are.
