Short videos informing staff about ongoing and future changes and the reasoning behind can lead to a high acceptance of changes and help keeping staff on board.
In changing environments, it is important to support the staff in adapting. This is particularly the case for the implementation of e-mobility at public transport operators. Altered requirements, such as increased digitalization and new technologies, can seem challenging to staff members.
In the framework of the Horizon2020 Project “mySMARTLife” a series of videos has been produced. While some videos are targeted at passengers, many of them are meant for VHH staff. The character of most videos is educational, and can be used to complement formal training, covering topics such as working safely with high-voltages, or driving behaviour. Other videos explain the backgrounds of e-mobility transition and aim to create a better understanding of the changes in processes and daily working life, which could be perceived as inconvenience by some staff members. Thus, VHH staff has been involved in the changes rather then left out.
The videos targeted at VHH staff have been published at intervals of one or two weeks on VHH intranet. Once published, the videos can be viewed any time. Some videos are also available for public interest on the VHH youtube channel.

Resources needed

VHH´s marketing team developed the content together with the project team for e-mobility.
An external company was hired to support the development process and produce the videos.

Evidence of success

The videos were appreciated by the target groups as feedback and the number of clicks indicate.

Potential for learning or transfer

The practice is easy to transfer to any PTO. The videos can take up topics as they materialise when implementing e-buses. While the EU funded project provided proper instructional videos for the change process of VHH, the threshold to try this can be very low with modern smart phones providing good quality videoing capabilities. VHH started with small interviews of personnel to explain what they were doing before upgrading to more professional equipment.
