nZEB weeks consist of: construction products and real estate fairs, real-time nZEB construction, career orientation centers and construction job fairs.
The nZEB weeks will consist of a multitude of events: construction products and real estate fairs, practical demonstrations and real-time nZEB construction, training courses for designers and construction workers, etc.
The BKHs (Building Knowledge HUBs) will get on wheels – through the design and construction of prefabricated modular mobile buildings that will serve as information and demonstration centres for raising awareness of the benefits and specificities of nZEB and will create the necessary prerequisites for effective communication between stakeholders. With very careful attention to exterior and interior design, the centres will offer real-life experience of quality nZEB and will be equipped with all necessary technologies to provide full information of the processes with relevance to the building’s performance in terms of comfort, internal air quality parameters, and energy consumption. In addition, the nZEB Roadshow will add to the current efforts to promote nZEB –related two very important but unfortunately still largely missing components: professional marketing and sales services and strong media partnerships.
The project concept has received strong support by a large number a stakeholders, as 50 dedicated letters of support are attached to the proposal - including 2 ministries, national, regional and local energy agencies, hosting municipalities and actors along the whole value chain of the construction sector.

Evidence of success

Based on EU environmental requirements, all new buildings from 2021 (public buildings from 2019) must be nearly-zero-energy buildings (nZEBs), which means a building with very high energy performance. The EU-funded nZEB Roadshow project will perform national-level marketing and communication promotions in five EU countries, organizing nZEB weeks in selected cities in each of the participant countries.

Difficulties encountered

Lack of support for initiating and developing the application of the legislation in force in Romania regarding nZEB.

Potential for learning or transfer

From 2021 the nZEB standard is mandatory in Romania for all new buildings. There is an outstanding potential in the market.
To this date, there is still a significant lack of quality and efficient buildings at every corner. The reason is that building professionals don’t have the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to deliver an nZEB project but also because there are no informed local markets. Without informedmarkets, there will be no demand for skilled building professionals.

Through nZEB roadshow the focus is to involve all relevant institutions and the biggest universities and make them work for the citizens. Important awareness and call to action planned through
• large-scale events
• construction fairs
• live & VR Demonstrations
• training courses for designers,
• workers and investors
• on-site training and support for ongoing projects of local authorities
• job fairs and career orientation events
• demonstrate real-time energy efficiency performances.
