In the modern world, the human population is growing and with it the need to utilize the waste that is generated. In a context of growing demand for phosphorous
The practice allows for the valorization of a waste product from incinerated sludges of wastewater treatment plants, which would otherwise be disposed of in special lands fill due to its ecotoxicity. When recycled in the process, this waste is valorized as quality phosphoric acid thanks to a high P content, and the quantity of solid waste is reduced to half, into a non hazardous waste, with industrial potential.
By validating and proving the technology for ash recovery and phosphoric acid production, stakeholders can get positive results from reducing the waste generated by urban wastewater treatment plants and obtaining quality phosphoric acid for use in the chemical industry. Stakeholders can be both private companies with wastewater treatment plants and state and municipal authorities involved in the operation of such facilities.

Resources needed

The amount of financial resources for the use of technology can range from medium to large investments. In each case, it is necessary to calculate the required amounts of phosphoric acid obtained.

Evidence of success

Technophos has all the infrastructure required to test and validate the process for all raw-materials to prove the operation of the technology with the customer's raw materials. The process is validated using fly ash from The Netherlands (SNB/HVC) at lab and pilot scales for: Digestion, Ion exchange
Membrane purification. The model for production of phosphoric acid offered by Technophos can be transferred to the producers of this type of product, phosphorus fertilizers, municipal treatment plan

Potential for learning or transfer

The technology is implemented at the laboratory and semi-industrial level. With the growing population of the planet and the need to treat wastewater from urban wastewater treatment plants, the generation of waste from sludge is high. The technology for recovery can be implemented. Wastewater treatment plants are a major component, will be used for a very wide period. This is a prerequisite that the raw material from the combustion of sewage sludge will also be regular in quantity and time. Potencial target group of PL transfer
