“Sázíme budoucnost” - Plant trees for the future

The project Sázíme budoucnost was established in 2019 with a clear goal - to plant 10 million new trees in 5 years, one tree for each citizen in the Czech Republic. The aim of the project is to give everyone the opportunity to plant trees for the future and to create a movement of citizens and institutions which together will change the faces of the landscape and cities and make them more resilient. The project is supported by active mayors, teachers, associations, responsible companies, experts, and enthusiasts. Finances come from public and private sources, foundations, subsidy programs and the State Environmental Fund. Support from the Ministry of the Environment helps the project to unravel complex funding and laws. Their general partner, the Tipsport Foundation, helps with the promotion of the project and reaching new people.
To be able to enjoy the planted trees in the future, special knowledge and long-term commitment are needed. When planting trees, it is important to plan ahead, consider future costs, and pay attention to things like drought. The same emphasis needs to be placed on the appropriate species choice for different locations.
Possible ways to involve citizens: organize planting event, donate money, offer land, help to plant or to take care of the trees.
The project creates partnerships and strengthens the ability of individuals and communities to actively care for the environment.

The main funder is the Tipsport Foundation that takes care of the project’s personnel and operating costs. Each planting project is unique, therefore, it is difficult to determine the exact sum for resources needed. Lot of work is based on voluntary help and donations.

The Sázíme budoucnost project was established by the Nadace Partnerství Foundation that connects all those who want to plant trees in the Czech Republic whether municipality, city, association, state institution, company, school, farmer, landowner, volunteer, or donor. The Foundation has over 30 years of experience. They believe that by working together it is possible to achieve the goal to help to cool down Czech cities and to support the resilience of the Czech landscape to the effects of climate change. The Foundation provides information on available funding and methodological and legislative support for planting. They work to remove legislative and other barriers that prevent the planting of new trees and the preservation of existing ones. This concept can be implemented elsewhere.
