On the 22nd June 2017, Members of the Universidade of Aveiro and University of Stockholm co-organized the SoCiaL workshop Smart cities & Smart mobility towards improving quality of life & Well-being.

This exchange of experience took place in the city of Rhodos, Greece and was a great opportunity for several researchers and professionals in the field of transport and ICT discuss the following topics: How can we build an environmentally sustainable ecosystem while providing seamless experience in smart mobility ? (2) How can data science, IoT, and data management technologies be exploited for innovative solutions within the areas of smart cities and smart mobility? (3) How can ICTs enhance citizen engagement and influence decision makers when launching smart city initiatives?

Jorge Bandeira of the University of Aveiro chaired the session in with Myrsini Glinos of the University of Stockholm and presented the CISMOB main vision and a technical paper addressing a set of best practices identified so far during the CISMOB interregional cooperation. Margarida Coelho from UA offered an interesting talk on intelligent transport systems and impact on sustainable mobility. Other interesting talks have focused on management of information associated with bike sharing systems and innovative parking management applications.

The participation in conferences not exclusively focused on transport systems has opened the range of opportunities on the impact of ICT on the mobility system. Two main lessons were learned from this event:

All human senses should be considered to maximize the applicability of new sources of information, and, "sustainable mobility" should also means inclusive mobility. A set of best practices for supporting vulnerable people' mobility shared during PETRA conference will be part of the best practice list of CISMOB project.
