Experts from seven European regions met last week for the second workshop of the BID-REX project. This interregional seminar, organised by the Department of the Environment of the Basque Government, brought together 45 stakeholders who met to discuss how to match biodiversity information to the needs of decision makers.
The first BID-REX workshop was held in Belgium in February, and focused on the information needs of decision makers. This second workshop, ‘Matching information to needs’, considered whether existing biodiversity information is sufficient for decision makers, and how it can help meet their needs. Stakeholders exchanged experiences and points of view on how the wide range of environmental information available is generated – from citizen science to research environments. The way this information is collected, maintained and validated will be analysed and successful processes exchanged between regions. This will serve as a basis for new developments in other regions.
