In Slovenia, private institutions and amateur collectors hold a considerable amount of biodiversity data, which is often ignored in decision-making processes.
To find out more about the situation, the National Institute of Biology invited all biodiversity data owners to a workshop to discuss ways to include more privately owned data into the decision-making process. The focus was mainly on taxonomic experts working in the BID-REX pilot area - Ljubljana National Park.
One of the main problems highlighted was lack of funds for collection and preparation of biodiversity data to be made available to decision makers. This issues is reflected in the quantity and quality of available biodiversity data.
