A new report, published on 29 March by the Interreg Europe funded BID-REX project – From biodiversity data to decisions: enhancing natural value through improved regional development policies, reveals ten key messages to unleash the power of biodiversity information in decision-making.
The report is the culmination of three years of work by nine partners from seven European regions. Through five interregional workshops – all focusing on different themes – and engagement with a wide range of stakeholders, a huge amount of experience has been shared and collated into this guide.
It articulates all the key components surrounding data – from collection and management, to its use. It provides data collectors, managers and users with a useful guide on the power of data, what to do with it, and why.
Gerard Bota, BID-REX Project Leader said: “This document is a huge milestone, and the direct result of hard work over the last three years. By working with partners across Europe to share concerns, ideas and examples of best practice, we have learnt new approaches to solve common issues. We hope that this document inspires other stakeholders across Europe, helping them to bring biodiversity data and decisions closer together; which is key to conserving nature, both now and in the future.”
