The On 4 April 2018 the Regional Council of Kainuu organised the meeting of the lignine- feasibiilty study sub group.

During the meeting we made the mid-term review of the  lignine feasbility study. We discussed the industrial focus and the market relevance. Institutions present were the Regional Council of Kainuu Finnish Forest Centre (Metsäkeskus), the University of Oulu (acting also as feasibility study expert) and Kainuun Etu.

Kainuu Region is going forward with two feasibility studies:  on the lignine applications and the on the berry industry as an industrial renewal tool.

The feasibility study on lignine applications builds on the forest side flows valorisation. Forest economy-based side flows valorisation is a priority of the Kainuu RIS3. The opitmisation exercise which is the core part of our feasibility study, is to identify types of investments with increased added value, clear demand for lignine-extracted products, and plausible economic base (localisation) in Kainuu and / or Finland. These investments will form the base of the RIS3 paths in the first action plan.
