The new Coronavirus has led countries to develop solutions to face the COVID-19 pandemic and Portugal is the one that has stood out the most with regards to innovative projects. CARPE DIGEM Portuguese partner IDERAM reports that the digital innovators in Madeira are amongst the most active players. The University of Madeira (UMa) joined efforts with several regional entities, public and private, for the development of projects that contribute to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Within the scope of the Call Research 4 COVID-19, UMa submitted three projects to FCT: Designing for Health, APPCovidMadeira and OMICs4COVID: OMICs avenues to fight COVID-19.
A team of researchers from the Institute of Interactive Technologies has created an online platform that allows to follow the evolution of the new Coronavirus in the Region. The objective is to disseminate credible and contextualized information to the population. A student of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon from Madeira developed an online platform for public display of information related to covid-19 in Portugal. The platform has data on the European and world situation, allowing a look at the situation in general and, in particular, for Portugal and the autonomous regions.
Another Portuguese consultancy PSE creates an appl that measures citizens' respect for confinement, in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. This technology also makes it possible to determine which counties are being more and less compliant with regard to the recommendation of voluntary isolation, that is, the counties with the greatest risk of spreading Covid-19 and where higher growth of contamination rates can be expected if there is no interference from other factors.
