BSC Kranj, Regional Development Agency of Gorenjska, held a Stakeholder group meeting on 10 October 2018 in Kranj. Seventeen participants, representatives of museums, libraries, municipalities, Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, Institute for protection of Natural Heritage, Regional Development Agency of Gorenjska, BSC Kranj and a representative of one private company, attended the meeting.
At the regional stakeholder group meeting we reviewed the content of the 5th thematic seminar “Digitization of libraries and archives” which was held in Valladolid in Spain from 19 till 21 June 2018, best practices presented there and the conclusions made at the end of the thematic seminar. We also overviewed the project timeline and upcoming activities and events.
The main additional topic of the regional stakeholder meeting was preparation of the regional action plan. Based on the assessed situation, needs and opportunities, participants discussed about objectives and key actions to be taken in the following period of ten years in field of digitization of cultural and natural heritage in Gorenjska region, Slovenia. After reviewing the current degree of digitization and digitalization of heritage in Slovenia and in particular in Gorenjska region and knowledge gained from local and international best practices, the following challenges was summed up:
- to bring together separate heritage registers, upgrading their capacities, improve user friendliness and assure technological modernization,
- to support local and regional museums in accelerating digitization of movable cultural heritage,
- to increased tourism visits and demand for top experiences of destinations and authentic alpine life,
- to better use of existing digital data and registers for education, awareness raising, presentation, signposting, planning or different business ideas.
