Five integrated science, research and business centres (valleys) have been developed recently in Lithuania. Valleys specialize in a number of scientific research fields and involve main Lithuanian research institutions. According to the national rules, all R&D resources located in the valleys must be available for the public on the basis of open access. For this reason, universities and research institutes established open access R&D centres/ laboratories, where business and public partners can access the newest R&D resources, the most advanced technologies and get highest quality services.
The network is a newly launched cooperation platform among 14 Lithuanian universities, 13 public research institutes as well as 8 science and technology parks. All these institutions have concentrated their high-level R&D intellectual potential, infrastructure and resources in order to provide scientifically based solutions for business and society - Open R&D Lithuania.
All these institutions united their high-level R&D intellectual potential, infrastructure and resources in order to provide scientifically based solutions to the problems raised by business and society. Concentration of resources allows to create new technologies and products as well as provide R&D services and so to increase competitiveness of all involved partners.
Open R&D Lithuania services are listed on united e-science gateway platform (www.e-sciencegateway.lt) to provide professional assistance in research, technology and innovation issues. The foreign companies often apply to us for product certification in order to export products to the European Union. Scientific research is carried out even by the global companies such as “IBM”, “Microsoft”, “Thermofisher Scientific”, “Siemens”, „Huawei“.
In the “Hannover Messe 2017“ exhibition space Lithuanian delegation presented the first world non-invasive intracranial pressure meter, which was created at Kaunas University of Technology. The university has more than 50 years of experience in various applications of ultrasonic techniques for space research, nuclear plants, aerospace industry, monitoring of various manufacturing processes, and development of non-destructive testing techniques for composite materials. Many healthcare devices and technologies such as multiparametric scales or breathing rate measurement algorithms were created by biomedical engineering researchers. The university is currently looking for partners in avionics, manufacturing and chemical industry for current patented technologies.
“I am really happy that Lithuanian researchers participated at “Hannover Messe” and established useful contacts with China, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Spain, India, South Korea and other countries. We hope for new joint projects and research contracts in the future”, - said Kęstutis Setkus, MITA director.
The Vytautas Magnus University is another member of the “Open R&D Lithuania” network and a reliable, professional science partner for business. The university suggests clients flexibility and high competence in the establishment of interactive zones for introduction, entertainment and employee learning using development of simulation environments, processoptimization and adaptive control detection of errors together with media monitoring with application of linguistic and semantic technologies.
Klaipeda University presented the Marine Research Open Access Center laboratory services: marine chemistry (air pollution, fuel properties, and so on), research marine structures reliability, as well as Water Technology Laboratory future services. In the exhibitions there were established relationships with the ship manufacturers.
Vilnius Gediminas Technical university introduced a new innovative patented technology of steel rope quality diagnostic method and equipment, and proprietary filtration equipment to separate heavy metals and other deposits. This equipment is oriented towards small and medium-sized construction companies.
Aleksandras Stulginskis University presented two examples of inventions: 1) fixed and mobile medicinal herbs drying rooms, 2) an evaluation of digital resources for development of experimental plant generator and targeted research based on this innovation.
At the joint Lithuanian stand the Lithuanian Energy Institute presented the applications of plasma technology developed in the Plasma Processing Laboratory. The presented samples will consist of the deposited hydrophobic and catalytic coatings, produced ceramic fibre and high-temperature-treated samples of refractory materials designed for space applications.
