On the 27th of November, an Interreg Europe programme workshop on Open, Social and Responsible innovation (OSRI) took place in Brussels where Vidzeme Planning Region and CIT introduced the international audience to the ecoRIS3 project's goal to promote better policies to create sustainable innovation ecosystems in the regions.

Within the ecoRIS3 project, Vidzeme Planning Region and CIT have developed their Action Plans to boost innovation in RIS3 areas in Vidzeme and the Southern Region of Ireland. The OSRI workshop hosted by Interreg Europe programme was a great opportunity to present and discuss activities planned. The examples presented in working groups at the OSRI workshop are valuable and useful for the Vidzeme Planning Region’s project team for further implementation of the Action Plan.

In Latvia, one of the planned activities is to develop Innovation Laboratories’ that would bring together entrepreneurs with researchers for an open dialogue to promote innovation. As it was mentioned during the workshop, to successfully operate and engage the target audience to the Open Innovation concept, first it is necessary to create a stable and strong physical or virtual environment for stakeholders to come together for interaction. To reach the successful result the professional facilitator is necessary which using a systematic approach (or specific method) can manage the process.

The project manager of the EcoRIS3 project in Vidzeme Planning Region Laima Engere emphasized: "In this Workshop from other project experience we learn that to engage our target groups as one of the best methods is storytelling on successful examples and results achieved showing key benefits of participation in activities provided.”

In Ireland, the planned activities are focused around the industry clustering model of economic development to bring industry, academia and government together to align the research agendas, find opportunities for collaboration and begin new co-operations which promote open innovation.
