On 30 October this year, the 3rd meeting of the EURE Local Stakeholder Group of the Lubelskie Region took place. Representatives of cities from the Lubelskie Region - including Lublin, Zamość, Hrubieszów, Lubartów and Radzyń Podlaski - met again online, this time to talk about issues connected with circular economy in cities.
During the meeting, the state of works under the EURE project was presented, especially concerning the reports being prepared, a schedule of activities for the next semester, as well as the most current information for the medium cities losing their function in the development of operational programs.
The main meeting point was the presentation of an expert from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, entitled "Circular economy in Poland and other European Union countries - concept and implementation". It enabled participants to learn how CE can be implemented with examples from various cities around the world.
Representatives of our cities were able to hear about the Japanese city of Kamikatsu, which this year is to reduce its waste to zero, or the Italian city of Cappanori, which has one of the highest waste performance indicators in Europe. Some specific measures were met with a great interest among the participants, namely shops without packaging available in Berlin, Warsaw and even in Lublin, or upcycling (converting waste material into new goods), based on examples of an arbor made of old signs or houses for birds made of waste.
We also encourage you to watch an interesting, illustrated video by Sustainability Illustrated that explains what a circular economy is in an easily accessible way:
The next meeting of the Group will be devoted to the blue and green infrastructure in cities, on which we heartily invite you today!
