To deliver the European Green Deal, achieve a net reduction of at least 55% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 as compared to 1990 and climate-neutrality by 2050, the Commission will propose to revise four laws currently in force covering emissions and removals across the economy:
- EU Emissions Trading System
- Effort Sharing Regulation
- Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry Regulation
- CO2 standards for cars and vans (light-duty vehicles)
The Commission has published inception impact assessments, which set out the potential nature and scope of the revisions for each of these policy instruments. The inception impact assessments are open for public feedback on the EU better regulation portal until 26 November 2020.
This will be followed by open public consultations, which will give citizens and organisations the opportunity to express their views on the revision of the policy instruments.
