The fourth edition of the Seminar of Exchanging Experiences in the area of Sustainability was organized by Eixo Atlantico in A Coruña. One of its main conclusions was that cities should be at the core of any action related to reducing waste production, as one of the main working areas to fight against climate change. Ms Inés Rey, mayor of the city, opened the event stating that we are living a “key moment for the future of our history” and that it would be “key” for the future of our cities and their inhabitants. The mayor defended the theory that “raising awareness about climate change should be linked to working on urban environmental policies”.

During the opening session, the Secretary General of Eixo Atlantico focused on the importance of proper urban policies on sustainability in all cities and the contributions that could come from the EURE project.

The session also included an intervention by Mr Jorge Díaz del Castillo from the European Commission - DG ENV who talked about the waste legislation in progress and in the phase of being transposed to national legislation.

Other speeches presented good practices identified in cities members of Eixo Atlantico and that could be of inspiration to the others.

The seminar was the occasion for participants to exchange and debate among cities and the perfect framework to introduce EURE and its objectives.
