The second meeting within the Inno Provement project was organized by the most northern Inno Provement partner, the Regional Council of Kainuu. The project partners arrived to Vuokatti, Finland in the end of June to learn about the industry 4.0 solutions at traditional industries.
Based on the agenda of the 2-day-long meeting the international partnership arrived to Vuokatti, Finland with a high level of interest and great expectations. On the first day of the meeting the host organization and the lead partner of the project welcomed the partners and their stakeholders. After the welcoming words the Finnish partner introduced their thematic topic then all partners presented their connecting good practise. In the afternoon session some case studies from Kainuu got the floor. Actual businesses operating in traditional industries showed their solutions in the field of digitalization from wood industry to the mining sector.
The second day of the meeting was divided into two part. In the morning session a workshop was organized with the aim to identify those policy changes which are needed for a more digitalized industry. The partners created 6 groups which represented different actors in policy making process and they specified those fields which they can influence and defined the tools they have. As the closure of the morning session the partners held the Steering Committee meeting where they discussed the following steps in the project. The afternoon was the time of site visit to see how I 4.0 is applied and used in the TERRAFAME plant. Terrafame Ltd is a multi-metal company producing nickel, zinc, cobalt and copper at its mine and metals production plant located in Sotkamo, Finland. One of the key objectives of the company is to conduct environmentally sustainable, safe and profitable operations.
All together the Finnish meeting was an interesting experience and an important section of the project where we learnt how traditional industries can be involved into the digitalization process. Looking forward to the Portugese meeting in autumn, where we will discuss public policy initiatives in the subject or related to Industry 4.0.
