InnovaSUMP project actively paricipated in the 5th European Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) held in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 14-15 May 2018. The Conference is co-organised by Nicosia Muncipality, Lead Partner of the InnovaSUMP Interreg Europe project.

The InnovaSUMPpartnership has been selected by the Conference co-organisers European Commission DG MOVE and POLIS to contribute to the Conference programme with presentations on innovations in SUMPs regarding Sustainable Mobility for Tourism Destinations (by Municipality of Ravenna, IT), and SUMP-SEAP-SECAP Integration (By Nicosia Municipality, CY), in two out of the four project themes of the project. InnovaSUMP expert also chaired the session on 'Addressing tourism related mobility' on 14 May.

InnovaSUMP project had a stand in the Conference exhibition area showcasing the project aims, approach and achievements to date, with leaflets, posters, video clip, 2 fact sheets on travel behaviour change and sustainable tourism mobility and related good practices.

Regarding Exchange of Experience, the project partners benefited greatly by the synergies with the 5th SUMPs Conference co-organised by the InnovaSUMP LP Nicosia Municipality, during which the Working Groups of the project had the opportunity to attend highly relevant sessions, participate in discussions and interact with representatives of other urban authorities and experts. InnovaSUMP project led the session on Tourism Mobility, where Ravenna Municipality presented the results of Workshop B and LP Nicosia Municipality presented their practice regarding SUMP-SEAP in the dedicated session, as well as the ITMP / SUMP in other session and Nicosia Tramway Feasibility Study by the Cyprus Ministry of Communication and Works. The InnovaSUMP stand at the exhibition area  generated a lot of interest and thus contributed to Communication & Dissemination. Fact sheets on Travel Behaviour and Tourism Mobility (produced by advisory partner AUTh), as well as the project leaflet were distributed at the stand. In general, the participation of the InnovaSUMP project partners in the Conference was very informative and successful. Partners are making maximum use of the knowledge and experiences gained at the Conference, in terms of starting preparations for their action plans and policy instrument improvements.

This Conference is the pan-European leading annual event for all those involved in SUMP preparation and implementation. It serves as a forum for transport policy makers, planners, practitioners and academics across Europe to network, debate key issues and exchange ideas on sustainable urban mobility planning. In line with the European Commission having dedicated the year 2018 to the promotion of multimodality, the theme of this year's conference is “Planning for Multimodal Cities”, with a focus on the integration of transport modes and combined mobility solutions for passengers and freight in cities and regions. The conference is co-funded by the European Commission in cooperation with the Municipality of Nicosia and the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works of the Republic of Cyprus. Representatives of local and regional authorities, policy makers, urban mobility planners, academics and other urban mobility professionals participated. The conference was held in a city that offers a unique blend of history and modern lifestyle.
