REPLACE aims at improving management, implementation and monitoring of regional policy instruments. It is targeted at facilitating the transition towards a Circular Economy, while boosting sustainable development. In this video, we will put the spotlight on one of the project's good practices: circular and wood construction in Hamburg.

  • Online workshop on preserving and restoring ecosystems and biodiversity | 14:00 – 17:00 CET

The European Green Deal (EGD) underlines that eco-systems provide essential services such as food, fresh water and clean air, and shelter. They mitigate natural disasters, pests and diseases and help regulate the climate. However, in the context of the global biodiversity crisis and degradation of ecosystems services, the EGD is calling for urgent action to preserve and restore eco-systems and biodiversity.

Biodiversity and eco-systems are high on the European agenda. The EU has launched the Biodiversity strategy for 2030 as a comprehensive, ambitious and long-term plan to protect nature and reverse the degradation of ecosystems. The strategy aims to put Europe's biodiversity on a path to recovery by 2030, and contains specific actions and commitments. Moreover, it is expected that the European Commission will put forward a proposal for legally binding EU nature restoration targets in early 2022.

This workshop aims to inform participants about the recent European policy developments regarding eco-system’s restoration, and conservation, and to share knowledge about methods and approaches to include biodiversity in their decision-making process.
