The Marche Region has defined its approach to Industry 4.0, trying to combine the traditional skills of the manufacturing system with digital technologies
Thanks to Regional Law n. 25/2018 "Enterprise 4.0: Innovation, research and training”, the Marche Region has started to trace a Marche-based way to Industry 4.0 in order to adapt the regional production system to the innovative approach represented by the "Smart Factory".
The regional approach takes into account the local peculiarities and the needs to combine the traditional skills and knowledge of the manufacturing and craft world with the new digital technologies.
The digitization of production processes allows, in fact, the development of real “digital companies”, capable not only of introducing the best digital process technologies but, above all, innovating their approach to the market. An evolution capable of implementing the so-called virtual business model, which will facilitate the establishment of networks of virtual companies to favour the aggregation of a very fragmented industrial system.
This law may favour a competitive advantage for the Marche Region, mainly characterized by small businesses with a niche specialization: the possibility of using those Industry 4.0 technologies that allow to customize the production through the application of the artisan culture and the artistic and creative components typical of Made in Italy companies.
Furthermore, while sharing the importance of the manufacturing sector, the Marche Region intends to enhance the innovative services related to production as a driver for the growth of entrepreneurship and skilled employment

Potential for learning or transfer
The Marche Region considers it strategic to combine the new forms of Industry 4.0 with the circular economy.
With this law, the Marche Region defines a broad strategic action that identifies a regional way for the dissemination of the 4.0 paradigm.
It aims to abandon the linear concept of "produce, consume and discard" to encourage the circular concept of "reduce, reuse and recycle", promoting a synergy between research and innovation related to ICT and Key Enabling Technologies and the transversal application of the methods and tools of the circular economy.
