Culture in Range 2.0 - digitising, making available and reusing regional heritage resources.
Before starting the project, a great need was identified in cultural institutions to digitise their resources. At the same time, a desire was indicated for these institutions to have the tools to make this possible.
This knowledge became the basis for the preparation of the Culture in Range 2.0 project.
The aim of the project is to provide all people interested (mainly residents of the region) with tools for active participation in cultural events in the region, as well as the digitization of the resources of cultural institutions, which will allow to preserve the regional heritage for future generations. The priority objectives of the Project will be achieved through a number of tasks involving an increase in the scope of application of information and communication technologies in the sphere of public services through digitisation, publication and reuse of regional heritage resources held by cultural institutions.
Project activities include:
- supply of equipment and external services necessary for the digitalisation of resources and provision of electronic services,
- implementation of new IT systems (virtual museum, virtual guiding platform),
- provision of training.
Resources needed
The total value of the project is almost EUR 6 million.
Evidence of success
The project trained 160 persons in copyright law and digitisation techniques, and provided 36 fully equipped digitisation labs. Using this equipment, the project partners digitised ca. 17,000 objects of regional heritage (164,000 scans). Digital imaging services were purchased from external entities, which provided more than 100,000 digital objects (which equals more than 1 million scans). These objects are successively published and will be reused for promotional activities.

Potential for learning or transfer
According to Digitourism partners project:
"...It could be an inspiring practice to present to our stakeholders and an example of application could be the implementation of similar tool to facilitate the networking and the integrated fruition of the Aosta Valley castles." - Grand Paradis Foundation
"...which is digitising heritage materials and this has links to our Surrey History Centre which is trying to make more heritage accessible to people. It raises some interesting questions about how to prioritise what to digitise and how to train staff/volunteers" - Surrey County Council
"is a perfect example of how to implement a policy from the cultural side (cultural heritage managers) including the use of digitization as an enabler to exploit the cultural assets. This example can be adopted in regional new RIS3 policies." - Aragon Institute of Technology
"...project could: heritage become widely available to interested people and create a more compressive content ..." - Innovalia
