The objective is to implement the video consultation for the preoperative report in an integrated way in the hospital management system
Project led by the HUMV Anesthesiology Service, EValTec® and the SCS Corporate ICT Project Coordination area. The objective is to implement the video consultation for the preoperative report (doctor-patient video call) in an integrated way in the hospital management system and in the organization's processes. Up to now, the process has been mapped, recommendations for the use of video consultation have been drawn up, and a usability evaluation and development of the necessary technology have been carried out. A pilot study with 60-70 low-risk patients will soon be planned.

Evidence of success

• Reduction of face-to-face consultations.
• Potential increase on surgical waiting lists and preoperatory consultations efficiency.
• Good level of acceptance from the clinical side.
• Possibility to implement the video consulting process in other hospital areas.
• Possibility to coordinate with Primary care centers or pharmacies for complementary tests.
• 4-5% of surgical patients come from other autonomous communities of Spain. These patients could potentially use the videoconference

Difficulties encountered

• The project is at an early stage. Technology (hardware and software) development is required.
• Some patients need to go to the hospital for complementary medical tests.
• Electronic signature is required.
• Confidentiality and data privacy.

Potential for learning or transfer

The potential topics to transfer are:
- The project plan includes Human Factors studies to facilitate the adoption of the new process and technology.
- Recommendations for the use of video consultation
