The fifth S3UNICA newsletter focuses on different topics, namely the changes in the academic world in these last years of the pandemic, the approach of the institutions and university campuses to greening, and the activities implemented by the project partners in this last semester.
The first part of the newsletter focuses on two main topics: the reality of the higher education sector during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the approach of institutions and university campuses to "greening". This analysis is based on studies and surveys of the European University Association – EUA (a non-profit organisation with more than 800 members), aimed at understanding the impact of the virus on academic life, the policies to ensure a sustainable campus and the obstacles for their realisation.
The second part describes the two major project events held last semester, namely the Exchange of Experience and the Campus Technical Meeting.
On 27th October 2021, the project partner ALEA and some universities in the area realised the Exchange of Experience, during which the project partner presented: the project activities in Romania, the results of the stakeholder involvement, the development of the Action Plans and the activities and strategies adopted by some university campuses in the field of energy efficiency.
The Campus Technical Meeting, organised by the LUT University and the South Karelia Regional Council, was held on 21st October and was an opportunity for the more than 30 participants to learn about the LUT University strategy and activities related to energy efficiency, the role of the University Properties of Finland Ltd (SYK) in sustainability and energy management, the calculation of the carbon footprint of the Lappeenranta campus, the content of the Smart Specialisation strategic plan in South Karelia.
