The Sixth S3UNICA Newsletter has been published today. The focus of this edition are the progresses in energy performances of the PP2 University of Udine and the Project Meetings realized by the PP9 in Poland, together with an insight on the 11th edition of the GreenMetric Report published by the Universitas Indonesia in December of 2021.
According to the Report, one of the best performing universities in Italy for some of the parameters analysed is the University of Trieste. The University, in fact, figures among the top national ranking for waste and water management, with quite good climate and energy scores as well. Our partner has been rewarded notably for - among others - its investments in green areas and infrastructures, Green Building services, developed recycling system and incentive initiatives for reducing paper and plastic consumption, and the amount of research funds allocated for sustainability issues.
While the University of Udine places a little backwards in the Report on these activities, it indeed showed over the last year great improvements in energy performances. Last spring, the University signed a ten year collaboration partnership with the energy efficiency leading company Engie. The agreement is aimed at implementing transformative actions on 34 buildings of the University which include redeveloping lighting with LED technology, replacing all heating systems with latest generation solutions, renovating refrigeration units, installing 3 photovoltaic systems on buildings of the economic - juridical pole and the scientific pole, and a cogeneration system. The expected outcome is a reduction of energy consumption by 20% with a consequent abatement of 900 tons of CO2 equivalent per year.
Meanwhile, on the 8th and 9th of June, the Polish partner of S3UNICA Association of Municipalities Polish Network "Energies Cités" organised the Exchange of Experiences event in occasion of the last Project Partner Meeting of the first phase of the project. The event included - in addition to the PPM and the Exchange of Experiences - also a Study Visit in the city of Krakow. During the event it has been illustrated to participants the transformation implemented by the City of Bielsko-Biała in reducing ghg emissions with the support of the of the Bielsko-Biała Education Centre, the University of Economics and Humanity in Bielsko-Biała, the Bielsko-Biala’s Industrial School and the Technical and Humanities Academy. All these institutions presented examples of successful mitigation actions in the region which combines energy efficiency with educational and teaching goals.
