Situated in the city of Iaşi (Romania), in the central - historical area near Unirii Square, Braunstein Palace is a cultural heritage monument built in the art nouveau architectural style at the beginning of the 20th century. Currently, the building houses the "Cupola Galleries", the exhibition hall of the Union of Fine Artists.
Impressive by its sumptuousness, the palace was built on the site of older buildings owned by Adolf Braunstein, a Jewish entrepreneur who at that time owned several nearby shops. The cupola of the palace was inaugurated in 1915.
Over the last century, the building has been used for various functions, including as a hotel, bank and party headquarters.
Between October 2018 and September 2020, Braunstein Palace will be strengthened and improved thanks to a grant from the 2014-2020 Regional Operational Program, and will be transformed into a multifunctional centre, including a media outlet, exhibition halls, conference and other facilities. The building will be equipped with technological upgrades including audio-video systems, projection screens, smart TVs, audio headphones, playback equipment for each media type (pick-up, tape recorder, projector, etc.).
The renovation will conserve this monument and keep it accessible and attractive to residents and visitors.
Braunstein Palace is one of the cultural heritage objectives located in the area subject of the Case Study in Iaşi, covered in the Local Action Plan for the Promotion and Protection of Cultural Heritage in Iasi Municipality, developed between June 2017 and June 2018 SHARE partner North-East Regional Development Agency.
