SmartEdge was hosting its third workshop 23.-25. September in Brandenburg, Potsdam, entitled Business development based on renewable energy. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jõrgen Steinbach, Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy and Bernd Rubelt, Representative of the State Capital Potsdam, gave a warm welcome to the project partners and delegates at the opening of workshop 3.
The main questions of the workshop was: Can we reduce carbon emissions in metropolitan areas by facilitating business development in edge cities? How can the metropolitan and municipal level work together to support low carbon economic development. Building on local resources, can we base economic development on renewable energy?
The following topics was covered: implications, opportunities and challenges in transformation to a low carbon economy, small cities as laboratories, the attractiveness of edge cities for businesses and citizens.
Among the speakers was:

All the partners in SmartEdge and some of their Stakeholders presented cases and good examples on Economic development based on renewable energy, before the delegates had a common workshop on these topics. The site visits the next day went to Potsdam over ground heat accumulator and to the Energy centre of the BER airport.
