During three intense days in April stakeholders from partners ALEA and EARLP visited the southeast of Sweden and Kalmar county. Day one was about the regional energy- and climate targets and how they were implemented by the municipalities and the regional council. The stakeholders found the procurement of 100 % renewable fuel for the regional public transport together with the 15M euro full scale EPC in the municipality of Kalmar as highlights of the day. Next day they went to the city of Oskarshamn where they learnt more about energy monitoring of the municipal car fleet, groundwater heat pumps for residential buildings and finally a trip 450m below the surface into the research investigation centre for nuclear waste!
Last day started with an interesting trip to the municipality owned local airport, who aims to become fossil free by 2030, focusing on, finding and promoting, renewable air fuel. The Kalmar Energy utility company presented how they are constant looking for new sustainable energy business models. One is building Sweden’s biggest solar plan at the airport and selling shares of the production to long term investing companies as well as to SMEs and private households.
Last stop of the staff exchange was to visit More Biogas production plant north of Kalmar.
A presentation of the ownership and business model was followed by a tour around the plant. The participants was impressed over how everything seems to be happening without any greater influence of politics.
