One of the main activities organised in the framework of the Pilot Action developed in Extremadura is related to the training and capacity building of future Industrial Symbiosis facilitators in the region, considering that these facilitators or intermdiaries play a key role in establishing a industrial symbiosis relations within a region, having identified potential parties, by providing information and opportunities where collaborative projects could be developed.
The aim of this course is the future facilitators with the knowledge, skills and abilities that will help them to offer added value in their work of visiting companies, in order to identify those with the potential to carry out Industrial Symbiosis projects, with the aim of stimulating collaboration between companies (traditionally unrelated) to generate new business opportunities from surplus resources.
The training sessions were developed on-line from July 2020 to October 2020, divided into 7 different sessions in which the following topics were discussed:
- General introduction to Circular Economy and Industrial Symbiosis
- Circular Economy: principles and concepts. Business models of the circular economy.
- The role of local authorities in the circular economy. Circular economy and cities/territory.
- Industrial Symbiosis or how to apply the concepts of circular economy in the productive fabric of a territory.
- Industrial symbiosis: moving to action
- Management of resources (waste).
- Resource management (water, energy)
- The figure of the industrial symbiosis facilitator. Governance models for industrial symbiosis projects.
These sessions were completed with an off line discussion forum, where trainers and teachers discussed about different different topics related to the training sessions.
