The 3rd regional stakeholder group meeting in Malopolska was held on 15th September 2017 as an accompanying event within the International Conference on Raw Materials and Energy in a Circular and Low-Carbon Economy.

Linkage and close proximity of the SYMBI meeting with the conference has resulted in the attendance of some newcomers like a representative of an association of work cooperatives as well as a major regional food processing company.

During the meeting, the A1.1 Comparative analysis of regional and national policies on industrial symbiosis and circular economy and the A1.3 Identification of good practices and benchmarking of ecosystems of byproduct and energy exchanges results were presented and discussed with regional stakeholders.

There was also a presentation on the development of private-public partnership – the current situation in Poland and a short summary from the workshop in Kozani, Greece on PPP.

As a result of the recent student contest organized by the SYMBI project in Malopolska, whose aim was to describe an existing or proposed solution in the area of industrial symbiosis, a team from the Cracow University of Economics that was awarded the 2nd place presented their work to the attendees.

The presentation focused on an existing industrial symbiosis case from CHP plant in Skawina, near Krakow. The symbiosis is based on using fly ash in manufacturing construction materials, e.g. concrete, aggregate.

The presentations were followed by a heated debate on the possible development of industrial symbiosis. The discussion helped to identify new local good practices among the regional stakeholders group such as micro-scale biogas usage in a food processing factory.

The regional stakeholders gave some useful feedback regarding the project outputs and came up with some ideas on the potential places to show during the SYMBI study visit planned in Malopolska in the fifth project semester.
