Due to the establishment of the Interdepartmental Circular Economy (CE) Workgroup by the Polish Ministry of Development, representatives of the Marshall Office of the Malopolska Region and SYMBI project took an active part in two meetings. The first meeting was related to industrial waste and the second regarded soft actions in the CE area. The main focus of the discussion was the Road Map towards CE prepared by the Polish Ministry of Development.

The meeting on industrial waste started with a presentation of the draft Road Map. Afterwards, the attendees representing various sectors: mining, scrap metal, energy, chemical, automotive, furniture, beverage and household appliance gave their feedback and shared many interesting solutions fitting the CE idea. An important case which came out was the importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and its positive influence on the CE development.

The meeting on soft actions attracted mainly NGOs as well as regional and local administration. The participants shared their ideas on possible actions regarding education in the CE area. There was also a discussion about a media campaign which would potentially raise the society awareness of CE benefits and how to urge people to come back to repairing things instead of buying new ones.

The Malopolska Region shared their previous experience in waste prevention which has been implemented for many years in the region. Due to the rising importance of CE and further implementation of the SYMBI project, Malopolska is planning to organize a regional stakeholder meeting dedicated to the Road Map towards CE.
