The Balearic Islands is the latest holiday hotspot to declare it will be open for tourists this summer. The Balearics are going on the offensive. Regional Government through AETIB, its Agency for Tourism, has launched a massive promotion campaign in Britain, France, and Germany called “Soon Balearic Islands” in an effort to attract holiday bookers for this summer and extend the season until the end of year. This is part of BRANDTour Action Plan for Balearic Islands to reinforce Balearic Islands destination image abroad, which is in line with Policy Instrument N.1.
Despite the uncertainty in Europe, the good health numbers of the Balearic Islands together with the announcement of the German government no longer considering the islands as “risk area” have allowed the restart tourism activity on Easter holidays with more than 826 flights and 11% of hotels open.
International travellers arriving to the Balearic Islands from “at risk” countries will have to pass two COVID-19 controls at the airport. The islands will be one of the most popular destinations in the Mediterranean this summer.
Parallelly, within AETIB strategy to increase SMEs competitiveness and improving capacity building on tourism professionals, the online training Workshops on co-creation of experiential, innovative and sustainable tourism products that were organised last December 2020 for SMEs, were so successful that in April 2021 AETIB is working on the public procurement to contract more courses that will take place last quarter of 2021, beginning of 2022.
The topics to be covered by the new online Workshops targeted to SMEs and professionals participating in AETIB strategic Segments of Tourism are:
- Product knowledge, innovation and specialisation
- Digital transformation
- Digital Marketing
- PostCovid new scenarios
- Sustainability
- Networking
