Following up on our Tasteful East-Flanders tour in 2020 we organised this year a ‘wine tour’. In East Flanders there are already more than 30 vineyards, spread over 5 tourist regions. The wine sector in our region and the wine producers are not well known yet. Viticulture is a strong emerging market that we want to give more visibility.
On August 29 2021, 20 vineyards participated and opened their domains to tourists. The visitors did not have to pay for their entrance. Each producer of East-Flemish wine gave tourists a free tour in his vineyard and his company and explains how the production process works. Of course they could also taste and buy the wines.
Tourists could have a look behind the scenes and learn the story behind the wine. They could also discover the region and its tourist attractions. The Tourism Department of the Province of East-Flanders made cycling routes connecting the wineries. This way the tourist could not only get to know more about the wine production in their region, but they might also have discovered places they didn’t know.
