#Zeropollutionhour

CECI project partners from Finland participated in the zeropollutionhour campaign. CECI lead partner LAB University of Applied Sciences together with CECI good practice Maallemuuttajat which is also lead by LAB joined forces on 19.5 to battle pollution in the central bay area of the Jalkaranta area in Lahti. Communal sharing practice; Litter picking sticks were available free of charge. With both children and adults in mind as the litter picking sticks were in two different sizes.
CECI and Maallemuuttajat used an hour for picking litter, there was plastic debris but mainly cigarette buds. The international litter picking challenge campaign encourages citizens to take an interest in the cleanliness of their environment. CECI project partner Päijät-Häme liitto participated and picked litter in Lahti for an hour on 21.5. Anyone can take part in the clean-up challenge either individually or as a group.


The campaign encourages everyone to spend one hour in nature cleaning up in the month of May. With the help of social media, the #Zeropollutionhour is activating also citizens virtually with mindset change as the campaign promotes joint care for the environment. The campaign particularly challenges other cities, companies, workplaces, and communities to spend one hour in May collecting litter and waste from nature. The campaign was launched by Lahti and Lappeenranta, two green Finnish cities, and is part of the European Union’s Green Week. This year, the theme of Green Week focuses on zero-pollution targets. Lahti and Lappeenranta are among the green cities awarded by the EU this year.  Lahti is the European Green Capital 2021 and Lappeenranta is a European Green Leaf 2021 city.

The campaign complies with current covid-19 restrictions.
