In the fourth of the 9 articles of this series, the attention will be focused in the city of Iasi (Romania), from where our project partner Iasi Municipality has shared three good energy practices.

The practices shared from Iasi are: ‘The Thermal Rehabilitation’, insulation of blocks of flats in the city to improve energy efficiency in those buildings; ‘Consolidation and restoration of City Museum of Iasi’, consisting in the rehabilitation of one of the historical buildings for the creation of a city museum; and ‘The rehabilitation of historic monuments in Romania’, by the implementation of energy efficiency measures while the renewal works of the Palace of Culture of Iasi took place.

”Being partner in CLEAN project is a chance to Iasi Municipality not only to learn from other partners good practices, but also to promote Iasi good practices to all the European countries in the project and even to a wider number of countries due to the active communication of social media and Interreg Europe Platform. In fact, this is the key of creating a better Europe – learning from and about each other accomplishments”, declares Elena Farca, Project Manager at Iasi Municipality.

Participation in project’s staff exchanges

On the 12th and 13th of June 2018, representatives from Iasi Municipality attended the staff exchange organised by the Region of Crete (Greece). Project partners from Normandy (France), North Karelia (Finland) and Savinjska region (Slovenia) also attended these site visits to learn more about Greek good energy practices. According to Elena Farca this staff exchange was a good opportunity to learn about innovation, project or initiatives of Crete, to identify easily replicable good practices and possible partnership or idea exchanges between other similar public institutions, such as Universities and hospitals. “As a municipality, we deal with energy efficiency in hospitals and schools and we are particularly interested in this kind of good practices. Also, in Romania, we faced last 5-10 years very hot summers and cooling public buildings with lower cost is also something to learn”.

On the 28th and 29th of November 2018, partners from Iasi Municipality also attended the staff exchange held by Cooperative Les 7 Vents in Caen (Normandy). This time, they were accompanied by partners from Fomento San Sebastian (Basque Country, Spain), Region of Crete (Greece) and Development Agency of Savinjska Region (Slovenia), alongside many local stakeholders. In Caen, they had the opportunity to share views and imagine potential adaptations for their region.

”The staff exchange in Caen was very interesting and we particulary appreciated the presentation of the energy efficiency learning tools for schools that can be a very replicable good practice and we think to disseminate this model in Iasi schools. Also, combining social housing and civic action with climate change action should become a priority not only for CLEAN project partners but for all cities. It was a very useful and agreeable experience and we had the opportunity to learn a lot” , adds Adriana Spataru from Iasi Municipality.
