[NEWS] The spread of e-mobility in Flanders
In this third quarter of 2020 Flanders Region have achieved 6,5% of Battery Electric Vehicle and 10% of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle.
In 2015 Flanders formulated in its Clean Power for Transport Action Plan the objective to grow from +- 0,7% in 2015 up to 7,5% of battery electric vehicles by 2020. Besides Flanders wanted to have 5% of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) cars and 2,2 % of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) driving around by 2020.
In this third quarter of 2020 we have now achieved 6,5% of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) in Flanders and 10% of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) seems to be less popular in this region with only 0,5% of the cars driving on CNG.
Electric bikes are – of all electric vehicles – doing the best of all in Flanders. The speed pedelec (electric bicycles that have higher powered motors) is on the rise. These extremely fast e-bikes reach velocities of no less than 45 km/h. In 2019, no fewer than 12.132 items were sold, in May 2020 already 5.377. Electric mopeds are also gaining popularity.
