[NEWS] Rogaland tests mobility hub
Electric kick scooters, city bikes, car sharing and public transport are all gathered in one spot at Hillevåg square in Stavanger city.
The idea is that residents who travel there will have access to several means of transport in one place and an easier every-day journey. The residents should not feel the need to use their own car. “A mobility hub is a spot where you can switch between different means of transport such as electric city bike, car sharing, bus or electric kick scooter” says project manager Imme Dirks Eskeland in Stavanger municipality's environmental department. “You may take the bus to Hillevåg, but then you want to continue to Åsen to work. Then it can be practical to travel by city bike or electric scooter” she adds.
Mobility hubs are one of several measures in Stavanger municipality’s Climate and Environment Action to increase climate-friendly mobility. Based on the learning gained from the pilot hub in Hillevåg square, several mobility hubs might appear in Stavanger if the project is successful. "Several large cities are working to establish mobility hubs as a climate measure. Oslo, Bergen and Bremen (Germany) have shared useful experiences with us" says Dirks Eskeland.
In addition to various forms of mobility, Stavanger Municipality will also test whether the signage is understandable. They encourage neighbors and other interested parties to test the new mobility hub and provide feedback on the experience.
