[NEWS] Romanian drivers are buying more e-vehicles
The number of e-cars registered in Romania has increased. This shows the growing interest of Romanian for the purchase of environmentally friendly cars.
In the last 9 years, the number of electric cars registered in Romania has increased significantly, currently 4508 EVs are being used in the country and so far this year there have been 1590 new registrations, 36.6% more than the similar period of the previous year.
Although in June and July 2020 more registrations were made compared to the same months of 2019, in September the increase was more than double (from 111 to 263). This shows the growing interest of Romanian drivers for the purchase of environmentally friendly cars, even in the current difficult economic context, caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Most drivers preferred small city cars, such as Hyundai Kona and Skoda Citigo (36 registered vehicles each), closely followed by Renault ZOE with 35 new registrations. It is also worth mentioning the increase of the German manufacturer Smart, which from 10 new cars put into circulation in August, reached 27 in September. Also, the Mini Cooper SE model is present with 3 new appearances this month. The high-end segment remained at values similar to the previous month, in September the following EVs were registered in this category: 5 Mercedes-Benz EQC 4Matic, 4 Porsche Taycan, 3 Jaguar I-Pace, one Audi E-Tron and one Tesla Model X.
All the above data shows the growing awareness of the need to purchase clean energy cars, in order to decrease the CO2 emissions. The continuously increasing number of electric vehicles bought by Romanian drivers can be explained also due to subsidy programs implemented by national and local authorities, the improvement of the performances and autonomy of this type of cars and the increase of the average income. Also, the number of charging stations is constantly growing, due to various support programs for their installation, addressed to all companies.
