On October 23rd, 2019 Calabria Region organized the second stakeholder regional workshop for the European project “e-MOPOLI – Electro MObility as driver to support POLicy Instruments for sustainable mobility” co-financed by FESR funds through Interreg Europe.

The working day was attended by 17 participants operating in the field of transport, mobility and environment: Public Administrations (Calabria Region, Municipality of Reggio Calabria e Catanzaro) and universities (professors and researchers of Mediterranean University and University of Calabria), including also representants from ARPA Calabria (regional department of an environmental monitoring agency).

During the workshop were presented and discussed the first outcomes of e-MOPOLI project such as Regional Analysis and the Review of Recommendations with the various stakeholders, including European best practices on electric mobility and alternative fuels. The Mediterranean University presented some good practices to be added to those already collected during the first phases of the project, concerning sustainable and electric mobility development and promotion actions learned on two other projects: Life E-Via (which aims at developing road pavements and tires that will be suitable for EVs) and PRIN “Urban safety, sustainability, and resilience: 3 paving solutions, 4 sets of modules, 2 platforms (USR342)”

After a brief overview of the Regional Plan for the Protection of Air Quality, ARPA Calabria presented the activities of ARPACAL, the evolution of the RRQA (Regional Air Quality Monitoring Network) and the SIQUA (Air Quality Information System). The open discussion included also a focus on the Regional Transport Plan by Calabria Region with a presentation of the Expression of Interest for the realization of urban logistics interventions, such as limited access time to city area, integration with long-distance intermodal transport, proximity logistics areas (Nearby Delivery Area), infrastructural interventions, ICT and ITS integration for traffic management, eco-friendly vehicle fleet upgrade. The promotion of ICT, among other infrastructures, is also one of the focus of Calabria Region strategy concerning S3 development.

The workshop was a good opportunity to discuss the first project results and analysis between local experts, putting the basis for an integrated development and planning of the e-MOPOLI Regional Action Plan for Calabria Region.
