The Waste Agency of Catalonia acts as local partner in the first technical visits of the ECOWASTE4FOOD project, which works to prevent food waste in seven regions and European cities.
During three days, participants from France, United Kingdom, Poland, and Italy will visit the Food Management Project of Reus, the Bank of Food Foundation of Barcelona, the project of micro donations of Caprabo, the workshop of Espigoladors, the Sant Andreu Solidarity Reed, the Pont Alimentari project, the Semproniana restaurant and the "Weigh and Think" project, by Campos Estela at the Torre de Llebre School in Rubí. These visits are carried out with the aim of providing practical examples of good practices that effectively serve to reduce the waste of food.
These are the first technical visits that will be made by the members of the projects, which during the next year will also travel to the other participating regions and cities in order to gather information in situ. The best practices selected will be included in an action plan against food waste adapted to each of the territories, which will be applied between 2019 and 2020.
The ECOWASTE4FOOD project wants to face the recurrent loss of up to 30% of European agricultural production that is not consumed, and at the same time demonstrate that food waste can be managed to contribute to an efficient and environmentally-friendly economy. ECOWASTE4FOOD "Support for ecological innovation to reduce food waste and promote an efficient economy in resource consumption" is a four-year Interreg European project.
The ECOWASTE4FOOD project will provide a valuable contribution to the debate on the future priorities of the European Regional Development Funds that will be addressed in 2019.
