The Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism of the Azorean Government highlighted, today in Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira island, the inauguration of a fast charging station for electric vehicles, the first of 16 that the Azorean Government is implementing.
“Electric mobility is a priority for this government”, said Marta Guerreiro, during the official visit of the Azorean Government to Terceira island, emphasizing that “a network of 26 charging station is being implemented, of which 16 are fast charging stations”.
According to the Secretary, by the end of the year, there will be installed, at least, 8 of the 16 fast charging stations, beyond the remaining 10, for which agreements have been set with local municipalities, ensuring that, until the 1st semester of 2020, all municipalities in the Azores will have, at least, one charging station.
“We are sure that this network of charging stations will be another boost for electric mobility”, she underlined.
The Governmental representative for energy also referred that “ the budget for next year predicts about half a million euros in grants for the acquisition of electric vehicles, be it cars, motorcycles or bicycles”.
The legislation regulating these grants is under public consultation until November 3rd, with the aim of getting the maximum number of contributions for an effective and quick program.
“We are talking about a strategic option on energy and environment policy, taking into consideration the goals that we set for sustainable development, decarbonising the economy, mitigating climate change and strengthening energy efficiency”.
