The Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism of the Azorean Government inaugurated today, in Ponta Delgada, a fast charging station for electric vehicles, within a continuing strategy undertaken by the Azorean Government towards the implementation of a public charging network in the nine islands of the Azores archipelago.
“Today we inaugurated another fast-charging station, allowing for easy access by users of electric vehicles by installing it in the city centre of Ponta Delgada, in a place of high traffic concentration and close to the population”, said the Secretary.
According to the ruler, “the location of all these charging stations were studied in order to ensure security and quality of service to the users of the environmentally friendly vehicles”.
“We want to push electric mobility forward e this network is another strategic action towards incentivising Azoreans to opt for this kind of vehicle”, she highlighted.
During the occasion, the Secretary responsible for Energy reminded that, for now, this public network would entail 26 charging stations, spread out throughout the municipalities of the archipelago, ensuring a total and balanced reach in all islands, while satisfying the needs of populations farther away from larger urban areas.
Mobility patterns and touristic flows were also considered as well as the distance between the charging stations in order to justify the installation of more than one charging station in some of the municipalities.
The Secretary highlighted the already working charging stations in the municipalities of Lagoa, Angra do Heroísmo and Praia da Vitória, underlining the commitment of the Azorean Government for electric mobility.
