The Director for Energy of the Azorean Government highlighted today the work developed towards increasing the energy performance in the tourism sector emphasizing the ongoing campaign for the Promotion of Energy Efficiency in the Azores dedicated to these business area.
Andreia Carreiro spoke during the opening of a training session in Ponta Delgada, organised by the Azorean Directorate for Energy, focused on the hotel units participating in the energy efficiency campaign, “Through this action, we intend to improve the energy performance of these units through training, dynamism and dissemination of best practices on energy efficiency, in order to better manage energy, allowing for environmental and economic advantages for the Azores and its stakeholders”.
After this training session, the involved entities will elaborate, present, and commit to an energy efficiency plan adjusted to their hotel units. The 10 units with the most promising plans will receive technical support for their implementation as well as a charging station for electric vehicles that will be available for workers and guests promoting, through electric mobility, “one of the best energy efficiency measures”, she added.
“By improving their energy performance and making charging station available, these units will gain recognition and increase their competitiveness through a sustainable positioning in the services offered”, she affirmed.
“Considering the commitment of the Azorean Government to certify the Azores as a sustainable destination, this is a challenge that we present to the sector, by preparing all stakeholders for incoming changes in terms of energy, effectively helping them to fulfil the commitments that enhance the value of our nine islands”, she pointed out.
The Azorean Director also referred that this campaign integrates the list of best practices developed within the framework of the European project Interreg RESOR – ‘Supporting energy efficiency and renewable energy in European islands and remote regions’, with the goal of promoting energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy in the industry, commerce and services, highlighting the interest demonstrated by the other participating regions.
